Pre-K Hours and Days of Operation
Pre-K students attend regular classes for 2 hours and 50 minutes per day, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The class is held from 8:55 – 11:45.
Please do not bring students to school more than 15 minutes before class time. If a student is brought to school more than 15 minutes early, parents are asked to play outside with their child until it is time to come inside. Please do not leave your child at the school or in the school yard by themselves. Please drop off Pre-K students at the classroom. Most days pick up will be on the playground unless the weather is poor.
All Pre-K students must be signed in each day.
Pre-K follows the regular school calendar in terms of school breaks, holidays and teacher inservices. Special Pre-K calendars and newsletters are sent home monthly. Please refer to the special Pre-K calendars and newsletters for specific program information.
PreK Entrance
Please use the entrance located in the K/1 playground of the school when dropping off and picking up your child. For security reasons all doors are locked during the day. If you need to come into the school in between drop off and pick up you will need to use the front doors.
Our boot rack is located directly inside the door. We ask that all students and parents remove outside shoes and boots before coming into the classroom.
We work hard to keep our school clean and appreciate your cooperation.
Supplies
Each student will need to bring a pair of Velcro indoor running shoes to keep at school. Each student will also need a backpack, a box of Kleenex and an extra set of clothes to keep in their backpack. Please label all your child’s belongings.
Attendance
It is expected that Pre-K children attend regularly and attendance is monitored. If your child will be absent please notify the school office at 753-2375 or text Mrs. Weinkauf at 753-9138. If a student has poor attendance he/she will be withdrawn from the program to enable another child to attend.
Family Activities and Family Evenings
The PreKindergarten program is very family oriented; by this we mean that it is the expectation of the program that parents make every effort to attend Family events.
Family events will be held on Fridays or during the evening.
***Children must be accompanied by an adult during family activities.***
Parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and siblings are invited to participate in activities with their student.
There will be one Family Event each month. We do take note of those who attend. Those who are rarely present may be asked to leave the program, as commitment to attendance is a requirement of the program. We do have a waiting list for PreKindergarten and another family with a child in need will then be given the opportunity to take advantage of the PreKindergarten environment.
If you think you will not be able to commit to attending these events please let us know as soon as possible.

Updated Information
It is extremely important that parents notify staff of changes in phone number, address or emergency contacts.
Snack
Parents need to send a small, healthy snack for their child each day. Snack ideas include crackers and cheese, fruit, raw vegetables, dry cereal, sandwiches, etc. One or two items are sufficient as we want to keep our snack time short.
****All snacks sent to school need to be peanut free.****
Show and Tell
Every student has a specific day to bring something to show the class. Watch for a note or calendar listing your child’s Sharing Day. Children may wish to bring a favorite toy or book, photograph or some found object like a rock or feather. Items related to our classroom theme are appreciated. Please encourage your child to participate. This activity can really enhance language development for your child and the rest of the class. Students should not bring items to school except on their Show and Tell day.
Home Reading Program
Each student is given a book and an activity sheet on a weekly basis. Students take the book home and read it with an adult or older sibling. On the assigned day students bring the bag and book back to school. Each student must bring back his/her book before he/she can borrow another one. Reading with your child on a daily basis is a great opportunity to increase your child’s language and literacy skills.
Book Orders
Approximately once a month a book order will be sent home. Books are reasonably priced and are received within about two weeks. Our classroom receives free books when families place orders. Order books if you wish, but do not feel that you are expected or required to place an order.
Report Cards
Report cards are sent home several times during the year. Students are not graded in the reports. Instead, the report indicates the skills and abilities which the child has demonstrated at school. Report cards will use photo documentation as a method of sharing learning that is taking place.
If you have anything you would like to discuss at any other time, please let me know.
I am excited to begin this adventure with you and your child!
